From what I gather, you live in the northern climes (maine).  I feel your pain with battery power loss.  I constantly dealt with that when I lived in syracuse ny, bringing my battery in every night which is a bit problematic with multiple batteries.

With the heating system and your windows, especially with the type of weather you get up there, I thought that maybe you could create a heating-element like the bands across rear-windows, that could defrost your windscreen.

Just a thought.
